Pregnancy must haves 1st Trimester

Here’s how I survived the early stages of pregnancy

The early, early stages of pregnancy hit me like a ton of bricks. For the first couple of weeks, I had no idea I was pregnant—just thinking I had caught a bad cold. Fever, body aches, and a runny nose became my unwelcome companions. It was only after those symptoms passed that the exhaustion kicked in, followed by the inevitable pregnancy nausea that started around week six. (Let’s just say it was no picnic.)

Now, looking back, I realize how important it was to have a game plan to survive those early months. Here’s how I coped with the first trimester symptoms—and some of the must-haves that got me through.

1. Bananas: My Nausea Savior

As soon as I woke up each day, it was like a race to the bathroom, where I’d brush my teeth and then immediately reach for a bite to eat. My go-to? A quarter of a banana. I’m telling you—this little fruit was a total lifesaver. The nausea really only hit when I was hungry, so I made sure to eat small, frequent meals throughout the day. Bananas, crackers, and fruits were my best friends!

2. Hydrama by Mini+Me: Hydration Hero

Staying hydrated became so important, especially when I was feeling exhausted and nauseous. I ordered Hydrama by Mini+Me, which has Vitamin B6, Folate, and electrolytes. It’s pregnancy-safe and really helped me feel more balanced and energized during those rough first few weeks. I can’t recommend it enough.

3. Pregnancy Care Kit + Nipple Butter: Surrendering to the Journey

Here’s something I didn’t expect to be a symptom of pregnancy: itchy nipples. (why have I never heard of that before?) I wasn’t prepared for that, but what I was prepared for was a little self-care. I ordered myself a pregnancy care kit and a nipple butter. It was such a treat for my body and defnietly helped in accepting the journey.

I’ve almost used up an entire tube, and let me tell you—it’s a game-changer. It keeps things smooth, moisturized, and totally calms that annoying itch. If you’re expecting, do yourself a favor and stock up on this before the discomfort sets in! :)

4. Sleepy Belly Pregnancy Pillow: Sweet Sleep

By the end of my first trimester, sleep was starting to get uncomfortable. Between the growing belly and changing hormones, I found myself tossing and turning at night. I went with the Sleepy Belly Pregnancy Pillow, and I’m so glad I did. It helped support my belly, lower back & made sleeping much easier. You might be fine without one until later, but if you’re having trouble sleeping, I say get one early.

Comfy, Loose-Fitting Clothes: Comfort is Key

As my body started changing, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t fighting my clothes. I invested in a few pairs of sleeping shorts(in a size up) and basic crop tops that were looser and more forgiving. Honestly, I’ve been living in them.

My advice? Do yourself a favor and buy clothes that are comfy and loose from the start. Your body is going through so many changes, and the last thing you want is to feel cramped, uncomfortable or feel sad about sizing up. It’s easier on you getting a few pieces earlier on, so they are waiting for you. It helped me so much to embrace my changing body.

P.S. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with cute maternity dresses, but I suggest waiting until you’re a little further along—say mid-second trimester or early third—to treat yourself to those. You’ll feel more ready for those beautiful outfits when you’ve had time to adjust to your new shape.

Final Thoughts

While the first trimester can feel like a rollercoaster of exhaustion, nausea, and emotional rollercoasters, I’ve learned that having the right tools can really make a difference. From the soothing banana bites to the hydration help and pregnancy pillow, these little things gave me the support I needed to navigate the early stages.

Every pregnancy journey is different, but I hope some of these must-haves will help you too. Remember, you’re not alone, and you’re doing an amazing job!

Stay tuned for more updates on my pregnancy journey as I make my way into the second trimester.
